Individual Details
Sarah MADDEN
(22 Jul 1893 - Sep 1942)
Sarah's baptismal sponsors were Thomas Fitzmaurice and Margaret Shine.
Sarah emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on 25 September 1914. She was joining her sister Margaret who was living at 126 East 98th St. in New York. Sarah made the voyage to the States with a Nora Madden, daughter of a Daniel Madden of [what looks like] Asdee, Ballylongford. Perhaps Sarah and Nora were cousins. Nora was travelling on to Chicago to join her sister Mary.
The 1920 census shows Sarah working as a servant for a family in Manhattan. Ten years later Sarah was working for another family in Manhattan, in a house with many other servants.
