Individual Details

Mary MADDEN

(16 Jan 1892 - Jun 1961)

Mary's baptismal sponsors were Edward Fitzgerald and Catherine Mulvihill.

At the age of 17, Mary emigrated to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island on 18 September 1909. She was joining her uncle Cornelius Madden of 126 East 98th St. in New York. She must have returned to Ireland for a time because she arrived again at Ellis Island 11 years later, on 12 November 1920, giving her last place of residence as Ballylongford rather than New York. Again her contact name on the ship manifest is given as her uncle Cornelius. However, we do know that Mary was living in New York in August 1912 when her sister Maggie emigrated to the States as Maggie's contact name on the ship manifest is given as her sister Mary of 126 West 98th St.

At the time of the 1930 census Mary and her family were living in Manhattan. By the time of the 1940 census the family had moved to Woodycrest Avenue in the Bronx.
