Denis (Denny) HANRAHAN
(May 1833 - Abt 1877)
Baptismal sponsors were Patrick Sheehan and Ellen Sheehan.
Margaret inherited the Collins family farm in Moohane where she and her husband, Denny, lived. The farm had originally belonged to the Enright family - Margaret's mother was an Enright - who I am told were landlords and lived in Garryard, near Listowel, Co. Kerry. The Moohane farm was given to Margaret's mother when she married William Collins.

At the time of Griffiths Valuation (1850s), William Collins, i.e. Margaret's father, had two plots in Moohane, one of 14 acres and one of 50 acres. In 1876 Denny became occupier of the 14 acre farm while James Collins (a brother of Margaret's?) took over the larger plot. Denny died around 1877 (at the age of 43) and the farm was thereafter in Margaret's name. In 1900 the two farms were reconstituted so that the Hanrahans now had 37 acres and the Collinses 26. James Collins was replaced by firstly Maurice and then William Collins (sons of James?). John (presumably John Denny) Hanrahan became the occupier in 1907. He held it until his death in 1946 when it went to John Walsh.
There was also another farm of 18 acres which was formed from part of Hartys' farm in 1891 and first occupied by James Collins above who had left his own farm to his son William. This 18-acre farm went to John Denny in 1918. John also took over the larger Harty farm (37 acres) in 1919. James Collins died on 10 Jun 1906 aged 67 (informant was his daughter Catherine). His wife, Johanna, died in Doon on 31 Dec 1922, aged 88 (informant was her daughter-in-law Sarah Collins). William had married Sarah Carroll (of Gortnaskeha, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry) on 24 Feb 1895. They had nine children by 1911. William died on 9 Jan 1917 aged 54 (bronchial pneumonia).
Note: According to his marriage record on the Irish Genealogy website (www.irishgenealogy.ie) Denny was living in Kilehenny in Ballybunion rather than the expected Kilbaha.
