James SHANAHAN
(Abt 8 Dec 1816 - 23 Jan 1902)
I know of James's connection to my family from his death certificate on which the informant was a nephew, Richard Shanahan of Kilbaha. Richard was my great-grandfather. Furthermore there is a Griffith's Valuation entry (December 1851) for a James and a John Shanahan in Kilbaha West who jointly leased about 56 acres from Charles L. Sandes, indicating a family relationship.
It appears James was the James Shanahan baptised in Moyvane on 8 December 1816 who was a son of Cornelius Shanahan and Mary Dillane (sponsors were Patrick Paradine and Ellen Shanahan); I can find no trace of any other James Shanahan born around that time in Kilbaha so I am assuming the baptism is that of our James above. However I cannot say for certain that Cornelius and Mary were our James's parents.
