Individual Details
(1806 - 4 Nov 1871)
I have no evidence to prove that Ellen was in fact a daughter of Cornelius and Mary but I have been DNA-matched by Ancestry with a great-great-great-grandchild of Ellen's (a descendant of Catherine Dillawn (née Gregory) that indicates a close connection between Ellen, Cornelius and Mary. I have also been told that Ellen's daughter, Mary Stack, was related to Ellen McQuinn/Quinn, daughter of Cornelius's daughter Catherine who married James McQuinn/Quinn. Both Ellen McQuinn and Mary lived in Nicholas County, Kentucky. This information was provided by a descendant of Mary Stack.
Ellen Shanahan emigrated to the United States. She and her second husband, George Gregory. along with with their two daughters, Nancy and Catherine, left Ireland around 1950, while Mary (Stack), Ellen's daughter from her first marriage, and Mary's half-brother, Richard Gregory, remained. Two years later, Mary and Richard rejoined their family, arriving in New Orleans in 1852, by which time their youngest sibling, John, had been born in Paris, Kentucky where the family had settled.
