Individual Details

Mary HANLEY

(Abt 1826 - 6 Apr 1899)

As Mary's probable father, Michael, married his second wife, Johanna Doherty, on 2 February 1826, and as we have calculated Mary's year of birth to be "about 1826", we do not know whether Mary's mother was Johanna or Michael's first wife. Ellen Lonergan. For now I am positioning Mary as a child of Ellen's.

In August 1873 Mary was shot at by Denis Treacy, the brother of Thomas Treacy who was the husband of Mary's daughter Mary. She escaped injury. At the time, Denis and Thomas were engaged in a bitter dispute over ownership of the family farm which led to a series of violent incidents.
