Individual Details

Honoria LAVIN

(Abt 1809 - 29 Mar 1896)

At the time of her death in 1896 Honoria was living in Corrageen (also spelled Carrageen and Carrigeen), Cootehall.

In a short account in a local newspaper in May 1896 of the 'month's mind' (special mass in memory of the deceased that takes place one month after the death) for Honoria, the list of mourners included a son-in-law, a "Mr. Bergan, Gardner (sic) St., Dublin". We know that none of Honoria's known daughters married a Mr. Bergan, so did Honoria have another daughter we are unaware of? Perhaps the most likely explanation is that there was a reporting error and the son-in-law was actually Patrick Brennan, second husband of Honoria's daughter Bridget (although I have come across no evidence that Patrick or Bridget were living in Dublin in 1896).

It is likely Honoria was a second cousin of Catherine Lavin, the mother-in-law of her daughter Anne (McDermott).
