Michael GORDON
(24 Jan 1887 - Bef 18 Jun 1973)
It seems that Michael emigrated to the United States - for a time anyway. There is an Ellis Island record for a Michael Gordon from Ballaghaderreen, who arrived in New York, aged 24, in July 1912. According to the ship manifest, he was joining his brother, Cormac, in New York, and his nearest relative in Ireland was his father, Cormac Gordon, Aughalustia, Ballaghaderreen. However, a family member I have been in touch with had never heard of Michael having gone to the States. It is thought by the family that Michael might have gone to Australia at some point, but we have no confirmation of this.
A Michael Gordon from Ballaghaderreen, a merchant seaman, who was born in 1887 was awarded a medal by the British government for his services during World War I. Could this be our Michael?
