Individual Details
Lucy Gertrude Freeland
(17 Jul 1907 - 9 May 1980)
Lucy was the daughter of James A. Freeland and Alice Elderkin; Lucy was born in Illinois. The Freelands moved to Louisiana in the spirit of the characters of the Francis Parkinson Keyes' historical novel, Blue Camelia, which, as you know from Rosemary's book, was inspired by the story of her family, the Wrights. The James Freeland family did not prosper, however; they lost most of what they had in several successive failures of rice crops in the Gueydan and Thornwell area of Louisiana. (Note from Archie R. Hoffpauir, grandson of Lucy)
