EUNICE - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church for Jerold "Jerry" Hoffpauir, 66, who died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at the Eunice Manor Nursing Home. Interment will be in the St. Louis Cemetery. The Rev. Carolyn Volentine will be the officiating clergy. Mr. Hoffpauir was a resident of Eunice. Mr. Jerry worked for the Eunice News for some 30+ years having been a past news editor and the present sports editor. He was also a member of the Eunice Rotary Club and The Cultural Community Service Committee. Mr. Hoffpauir was the recipient of many awards such as the M.L.K. Humanitarian award, the Eunice Players Theater "Tim Wooten Award", of which he was the 9th recipient in 35 years, The "Community Service Award", the Eunice Rotary Club's "Citizen of the Year" award, and the Eunice Jaycees' "Jaycee of the Year" award. Mr. Hoffpauir was also the pastor for the First United Methodist Church in Basile. He was a long time friend and supporter of L.S.U.E., and was an Honorary Member of the Volunteer Fireman's Association. Mr. Jerry Hoffpauir's name has always been synonymous with the town of Eunice and the Eunice News. Mr. "J", as he was known to his coworkers, was a friend to all and will be truly missed in this community. Survivors include his son, Clifton Dean Hoffpauir, of Eunice; his mother, Hazel Hoffpauir, of Crowley; two brothers, Kenneth Hoffpauir and wife, Zulah, of Crowley, and Elvis Lynn Hoffpauir and wife, Vanessa, of Royersford, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Jo Hoffpauir and Hazel Dean Hoffpauir, both of Crowley. Mr. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hoffpauir, and his father, Howard Murrel Hoffpauir. Visitation will be held from noon until 9 p.m. today and will continue from 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of services. Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice (337) 457-3371, is in charge of arrangements.
