Individual Details

Emma Irene Broschard

(5 Jan 1894 - 15 Sep 1995)

When Emma was young, she suffered from "fits". Her parents would pump water on her to bring her out of it. The family was advised that her fits would stop if they moved to New Jersey. Needless to say, the fits didn't stop. Emma continued to suffer from occasional spells where she would pass out for the remainder of her long life. She was legally blind in her later years, and would cook meals on an electric range, sensing heat by touch. She and husband Henry enjoyed playing cards with friends (mostly with Chris and Amanda Miller of nearby Mount Royal) and family (as long as the cards had large text and symbols). Emma also enjoyed Chinese Checkers. In her 80's Emma had a spell while walking down the cellar steps at 9 East Cohawkin Road, Clarksboro, NJ to do wash, resulting in a fall and head injury that required a trip to the emergency room. She died at the age of 101, but suffered from many infirmities. Emma had a twin.
