Elisabetha Franziska Broschard

(15 Nov 1862 - 15 May 1947)

Elisabetha was one of 9 children born in Germany. Her father was a baker. She arrived at Castle Garden in New York City at the age age of 16. Her trunk was broken into during the passage from Bremen in Germany. She worked in various bakeries, one of which she described as disgusting. One of these bakeries was probably Mary Nippes Confectionery and Cakes at 632 West Girard Avenue in Philadelphia. This was where her future cousin-in-law Joseph Hermann worked in 1880. She had a brother John (Joannes?) and a brother Jacob who also immigrated to the United States in different ships at different times. She came over with an aunt of her mother (a great-aunt?). As per the 1900 and 1910 censuses, she had 5 children, of which 4 were living.
