Glen J. Briles, 73, Poneto, died at 3:48 a.m. Friday (Oct. 19, 2007) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Mr. Briles retired in 1991 from the General Motors Fisher Body plant in Marion, where he worked as a maintenance welder. He was a volunteer fir efighter for the Chester Township Fire Department for more than 30 years and was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. He grew up in Roll and attended Roll School and later Chester Center High School in Wells County. He atte nded Brookhaven Wesleyan Church in Marion. He enjoyed playing golf at Frazanda Golf Course and was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. He was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Grant County, a son of Glen and Beatrice Stephenson Briles. He married Phyllis Ramsye r Sept. 14, 1952, in Keystone; his wife died Oct. 10, 2006. Survivors include two sons, John Briles of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Danny "Punk" Briles of Montpelier; three daughters, Connie Heaton of Pennville, JoAnne Rockow of Port Charlotte, Fla. , and Charity Reed of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Steve Briles of Hartford City; four sisters, Beverly Herring of Upland, Beth Bennett of Roll, JoAnne Conners of Hartford City, and Rita Morris of Clinton, Texas; 8 grandchildren and six great-grand children. A brother, Bill Briles, is deceased. Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. Area volunteer firefighters should meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Mond ay. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Steve Sutton and Pastor Bob Van Cise officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Memorial Park, Montpelier.
