Individual Details

James Otis Briles Sr.

(4 Feb 1901 - 10 Oct 1990)

He is in the caption (provided by Deborah Penny in September 2001) to a 1909 photo taken outside his grandparents' home in Italy, Texas, as being the daughter of Oliver Briles. Thus, we know that he was alive in 1909. He appears to be about 5 or 6 in the photo.

In a letter from Winona Briles Brown (daughter of Otis's Uncle Wilbur) to Sara Briles Moriarty dated July 20, 1982, Winona reports that Otis was at a Briles Family Reunion that took place in Italy, Texas, earlier that month, so he was still alive as of that date. Indeed, she says that he was 82 years old and the oldest person at the reunion. If Otis was really 82 in 1982, he would have been born in 1900.

In a letter from Winona to Sara dated Decmeber 1983, Winona says that, as of that date, Otis was still alive and living in the "country out of Milford [Texas]."
