She is in the caption (provided by Deborah Penny in September 2001) to a 1909 photo taken outside her grandparents' home in Italy, Texas, as being the daughter of Oliver Briles. Thus, we know that she was alive in 1909.
The list of attendees at the August 4, 1974 Briles Family Reunion at the Legion Hall in Italy, Texas, lists the children and grandchildren for Mary and Joe provided below. It does not specifically say that Mary and Joe were at the reunion, but they probably were.
The Social Security Death Index lists a Mary E. Murray, who is probably the same person. The problem is that the SSDI says that Mary E. Murray was born on May 25, 1909, which does NOT agree with the birth information for Mary Briles, the daughter of Oliver P. and Maude Briles, in the 1900 and 1910 Censuses for her father's family. (The family's information from both of these censuses is provided under the Notes for her father, Oliver P. Briles.) The entry for Mary E. Murray given in the Social Security Death Index gives her SS Card # as 449-24-5436, says that it was issued in Texas, and says that she died on Aug. 5, 1997, in Whitney, Hill County, Texas.
