From "A Hawkins Genealogy 1638-1939, Record of the Descendants of Robert Hawkins of Charlestown, MA" by Ralph Clymer Hawkins published 1939, found at Heritage Quest online, page 248: Ruth Hawkins, born 5 July 1780, died 30 July 1819, married Mr. Phillips.
Family story is that Phineas Philips Bresee's aunt (Ruth Hawkins) who was married to Phineas Philips, took the child, Phineas Bresee, in at an early age and then she died shortly thereafter. She was a sister of Phineas' mother, Melinda. The above study on the Hawkins family supports this Bresee family story in that Ruth Hawkins married a Mr. Philips. This story is documented in "Phineas F. Bresee, A Prince in Israel" by Rev. E.A. Girvin dated 1916, page 26.
