Samantha Hoyt
(15 Dec 1805 - 20 Dec 1875)
See "Genealogy of the Hibbard Family Who are Descendants of Robert Hibbard of Salem, MA" by Augustine George Hibbard page 224 as to marriage and children of Samantha. It does not show her parents.
1910 census covering her daughter, Maria E. Hebbard, shows that Samantha was born in New York (?).
1900 census covering her daughter, Maria E. Hebbard, shows that Samantha was born in CT.
1875 death is described as December 1875 and is from Melvin A. Bresee's application for the Son of the Revolution membership dated 4 June 1923.
1870 census shows her as age 63 (born 1807) living with her husband Horace Hebbard, age 65, in Davenport, NY. She was born in Conn.
1860 census shows her as age 54 (born 1806) living with her husband Horace Hibbard, age 54, in Davenport. She was born in Conn.
1850 New York Census, Davenport: she is age 44 (born 1806) living with her husband age 44 and the children. This shows she was born in New York which may not be correct.
1840 New York Census, Davenport: husband Horace age is 30-40, wife age 30-40 with 5 children under 10 yrs old. Husband's brother Henry age 20-30 also in town with wife age 20-30 and one child under 5.
1830 census for Jefferson, Schoharie Co., NY, shows a Horace Hebbard age 20-30 (he is 24) living with a female age 20-30. This is 15 miles east of Davenport.
1829 marriage date is from the Melvin A. Bresee application for SR. Marriage date also in the book "Phineas F. Bresee, His Life in Methodism, the Holiness Movement, and the Church of the Nazarene" by Dr. Carl Bangs. IGI has location "of" Fairfield Co., CT. Ancestry.com has marriage location in Davenport, NY which I think is incorrect since her husband's father lived in New Fairfield, CT.
1820 census for New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT, shows a Joseph B. Hoyt age 45+ (this could be her father age 45) living with a female age 26-45 (this could be her mother Thankful age 38), a male age 0-10 (this could be the son, Joseph B. Hoyt, Jr. age 2), a male age 10-16, a female age 0-10, and a female age 10-16 (this could be her, Samantha age 15).
1810 census for New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT, shows a Jos. B. Hoyt age 26-44 (this could be the father age 35) living with a female age 26-44 (this could be the mother, Thankful age 28), 2 males ages 16-25 and four females ages 0-10 (this could include Samantha age 5).
1805 birth date for her is from Melvin A. Bresee's application for the Son of the Revolution (SR) membership dated 4 June 1923. Location is a guess based on her father being Joseph Bouton Hoyt who lived and died in New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT.
1800 census for Norwalk, Fairfield Co., Conn, shows a Joseph B. Hoyt, her father age 16-26 (he would be age 24) living with 2 female age 16-25 (wife Thankful would be age 18) plus others in the household.
"She was probably a member of the extended Hoyt family of nearby Walton " per Carl Bangs' book on Phineas F. Bresee (?).

Hebbard dated 25 Aug. 1954. Ancestry.com also has marriage date but the location is Davenport, NY (?).By 1829 Horace's father was dead and his mother had moved to New York City from Carmel, NY. The 1830 census for Samantha Hoyt's family shows them in New Canaan, Fairfield, CT. The question is where did Horace and Samantha get married? Are Samantha's parents correct? It appears that Samantha was living in New Canaan with her parents and what would bring Horace down to New Canaan?
