1844 death is from "A Genealogical History of the Hoyt, Haight, and Hight families" by David W. Hoyt dated 1871 page 441. FHC film 4997 Probate records New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT, page 54: Joseph B. Hoyt (his son) was appointed administrator on the estate of Joseph B. Hoyt late of New Canaan deceased; page 55 shows Joseph B. Hoyt's estate is determined to be insolvent; and on page 55, the court authorizes the sale of assets to pay off debts.
1841 per FHC film 4960 page 116 "Congregational Church of New Canaan, CT" Joseph B. Hoyt Jr. was under admissions to the church on 4 July 1841. Therefore, this must be the son of Joseph Bouton Hoyt and Thankful Benedict since this is the same church, in 1818, that Joseph B. Hoyt, Jr. was baptized in (see below).
1840 census for New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT, shows a Joseph B. Hoyt age 60-70 (he would be age 65) living with a male age 20-30 (this could be Joseph B. Hoyt, Jr. born 1810-1820), a son age 15-20 (born 1820-1825) and a female age 15-20 (this could be Janice Ann born 1823). The mother, Thankful, is missing.
1830 census for New Canaan, CT, shows Joseph B. Hoyt age 50-60 ( he is 55) living with a female his wife's age and children matching his son's age and three females none of which matches Samantha since she was married a year earlier.
