Individual Details
William Perry Bryant Sr.
(1 Mar 1900 - 28 Sep 1979)
(1) William P. Bryant moved to California around 1923. They left Christmas day, he and brother Carl. Dad had seven dollars in his sock. They rode the rails (boxcars). Dad told the story about how they arrived in a town in Northern California. There was an olive orchard near the tracks and they were hungry. They filled up their pockets first, then Dad took a bite of an Olive. The taste was very bitter. He turned and looked at his brother who was emptying his pockets.
(2) On the same trip Dad's cousin Rex Tabor tells a story about dad and someone who was bragging and getting into a fight in a boxcar. Dad kicked the person out when the train was going thru the mountains.
(3) When Dad married Mother they first lived on a ranch at the end of Lockhart Gulch Rd. in what is now the Scotts Valley Area. Perry Jr. was born on the Ranch. Dr. Sam Randall was the Doctor. Dad tells a story about a visit from the game warden. Dad had poached a deer and made jerky. He had the jerky drying on the clothes line. They heard a car coming up the road and got the jerky off the line not realizing that they had dropped a piece. When the game warden got there and was talking to dad he noticed that 2 chickens had a hold of something and were pulling in two directions. Dad gave some explanation which satisfied the game warden.
(4) The family moved to Santa Cruz when Perry Jr. was about 1yr. old.
(5) William Perry , Hazel and daughter Janice are all buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Santa Cruz, Ca.
