The following may be brothers of Benjamin Brown: Joseph Brown watch maker born in Coventry living on Spon St. during 1851 census, age 64 (born 1787) and had childern christened at St. John Ch. Coventry in 1823, 1826, and 1833. William Brown watch maker born in Coventry living on Spon St. during 1851 census, age 60 (born 1791) and had a daughter christened at St. John Ch. Coventry in 1829.
1859 death certificate for his widow, Elizabeth, stated he was a watch finisher.
1850 Lascelles Coventry Directory shows several Brown names in the watch business in Coventry as follows: Brown Bros. watch mfg on Moat St.; Joseph Brown watch mfg with home on Moat St. (this is Benjamin's son who was born in 1813 as proven by the 1851 census); Joseph Brown watch engine turner and engraver on Spon St. (see 1851 census which shows his age as 64 and may be a brother as shown above); Samuel Brown watch mfg on Spon St.; Anthony Brown watch glass maker on Spon St.; Benjaman Brown watch maker on New St.; and Thos. Brown watch mfg on Summerland Pl.
1846 death date is from a copy of his death certificate showing him as age 76 (born 1770), a watch maker who was living at the time on Hill St., St. John and St. Michaels dist., Coventry. Present at his death and signer of the death certificate was his son, Simion Brown. Burial date on 16 Aug. 1846 and location of St. John, Coventry, Warwickshire, is from FamilySearch.org. From my visit to the church yard of St. John the Baptist Church in Coventry, found his head stone behind the church in the north east corner next to Hill St. Near by was the head stone of his son, Simeon Brown and wife Sarah.
1841 census shows him as age 70 (born 1771), a watch maker, living on Hill St., St. John the Baptist dist, Coventry, with wife Elizabeth age 60. Nether of them were born in this county. Census also shows the following children: Simion a watch maker and wife Sarah on Hill St. in St. Johns dist; Joseph a watch maker and wife Mary on Moat St. in St. Johns dist ; Benjamin a watch maker and wife Susannah on Town Wall St. in St. Michael dist; and Edward a watch maker and wife Mary on Hartford Terrace in St. Michael dist.
1839 marriage certificate for his son, Edward, shows him as the father, a watch maker living on Hill St., Coventry.
1813 christening of his son, Joseph, is from the IGI and confirmed by review of the Bishop's Transcripts. The family was living on Spon St., Coventry at the time and shows him as a watch maker.
1796 marriage is from the IGI and confirmed by review of the Bishop's Transcripts for St. John Church, Coventry (film 428988). There are no films on the church records to determine who may have been present at the wedding. Therefore he must have arrived in Coventry prior to 1796 and before the age of 26.
1770 birth is based on age at time of death per a copy of his death certificate. He was not born in Warwick Co. per the 1841 census.
