"There has been much said by certain mistaken praises that Kaonaeha was the daughter of Keliimaikai and that he was really the father ... calling her a love child" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 1 p 39; see also McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 71).
Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 88a states: "Ka'oana'eha was known to have two fathers, Keliimaika'i and Kaleipa'ihala" (translation of Kuokoa, 5 Oct. 1867, p 2, Hereditary Chiefs).
