A. Younger brother of Kahekili (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 397).
B. Prince of Maui (Descendants of Prince Keeaumoku I, HMS G65, Chart 8-B). Sovereign of Maui (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 242). Ruler of Kauai (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 127). Became ruler of Kauai by joining with Queen Kamakahelei (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 397).
C. Received Captain Cook in Jan 1778 at Waimea, Kauai and exchanged gifts (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 162).
D. He was ruler of Kauai during Captain Vancouver's visit in January 1794 (Dibble, History of the Sandwich Islands, p 48). King of Kauai (Bingham, A Residence of Twenty-one Years in the Sandwich Islands, p xv).
E. Perturbed by Kamehameha's conquest on Maui, he gathered an army and allied with Kahekili (then ruling chief of Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, and Maui) to attack Kamehameha on Hawaii (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 159-160). "At the death of Ka-hekili in 1793 Ka-eo-ku-lani became ruling chief of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai." He worked his way back from Maui toward Kauai fighting his way from island to island (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 168).
F. He died in battle with Kalanikupule on 12 Dec 1794 at Aiea, Oahu. His mates were also killed in the battle, but not Kamakahelei. (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 265).
