"Papa-nui-hanau-moku is thought to have lived either in Fiji, Samoa, or Tonga. From one of these islands groups, she led her people into the Pacific Ocean where they discovered the famed islands of the South Pacific: Nukuhiwa, Ra'iatea, Tahiti, and, in time, the islands of the Hawaiian archipelago" (Wichman, Na Pua Alii o Kauai: Ruling Chiefs of Kauai, p. 119).
