He was the brother of Nuakea who "had joined Kaupeepee at Haupu, and became not only his steadfast friend and adviser, but his kaula, or prophet, as well" (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 84). He died with Kaupeepee in battle for Haupu on Molokai (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 94).
