John Palmer Parker

LIFE
A. He "arrived in Hawaii in 1809, and was commissioned by King Kamehameha I to round up wild cattle. He bought two acres of land for ten dollars, and that was the start of the fabulous Parker Ranch" (Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 263).
B. He was joined with Kipikane "in the Hawaiian style where a tapa cloth was thrown over the bride and groom as they were declared one." When the missionaries arrived in 1820, "John Palmer arranged for a Christian marriage at which time Kipikane took the name of Rachel and became known thereafter as Rachel Kipikane Parker" (Newton, Roots & Branches, p 82-83).
C. He died before Aug 1901 (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 35). Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 325 lists the death of J.P. Parker, Esq. on 25 Mar 1868
