A. Birth year ?
B. He succeeded Kualii as ruler of Oahu (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 136).
C. He died at Kawela, Molokai in battle. He had invaded Molokai, but was routed by Alapainui who came to the aid of the Molokai chiefs about 1737 (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 137, 289; Kamakau, Tales and Traditions of the People of Old, p 16).
Conflict: Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, 13 July 1865, p 4, Ka papa kuhikuhi makahiki o na mea Kaulana o Hawaii nei! (Kamakau) indicates death year as 1736.
D. Contemporaries: The battle in which he died in was with Alapainui of Hawaii, who came to the aid of the Molokai chiefs. Kapiiohookalani's notable warriors were Kauakahialiikapu, Kuihewakaokoa, Kaihikapuamahana, Kaweloikiakulu, Lononuiakea, Kahoowahakananuha, Kahooalani, Hua, and Mokokalai. Many chiefs and fighting men from Oahu were killed at Kawela, Molokai (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 70-71). He commanded the center of the Oahu army. The Oahu chiefs who commanded the left wing were Kauakahialiikapu, Kuihewakaokoa, Kahikapu-a-Mahana, Kaweloikiakulu, Lononuiakea. The right wing was commanded by Kahoowahakananuha, Kahooalani, Hua, and Mokokalai (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 137)
