LIFE
A. He was called Pe'ape'a-maka-walu Ka-maka-uahoa (eight-eyed-bat) (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 161).
B. He was a fearsome warrior and a counselor of war to Kaeokulani, ruling chief of Kauai (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 159,161).
C. He was "of tender age at the time of his death... killed in 1794 by the explosion of a barrel of gunpowder at the fort of Kauwiki, Hana" (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 214). Conflict: Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, 23 January 1875, p 4, Ka Papa Kuhikuhi Manawa o na moa Kaulana o Hawaii nei indicates the date as December, 1791
Conflict: He died before the battle with Kamehameha at sea in 1791 (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 161-162).
