Elizabeth Kekaaniauokalani

LIFE
A. Conflict: Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 274 states birthdate as September 12, 1834.
B. She was named Elizabeth after the baptismal name of Kaahumanu and Kekaaniauokalani after one of Laanui's sisters (Pratt, Keoua: Father of Kings, p 51).
C. She was "among the few chosen children of the high chiefs selected by Kamehameha III to be educated at the old Royal School" (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 89). "Mrs. F.S. Pratt was one of the first party of eight children, three boys and five girls, who entered the Royal school (of Mr. and Mrs. Cooke) for chief's children established by Kamehameha III, in 1840" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 72). She was educated there from approximately 1840 to 1849 (Royal genealogical board of the chiefs of Hawaii, G-7, p 3).
D. Her father died when she was a minor. John Ii was appointed as guardian (Pratt, Keoua: Father of Kings, p 56).
E. "She was a great favorite in the Royal Courts of Kamehameha III, IV, V & Lunalilo" (Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 274).
F. She wrote and published the book, "History of Keoua Kalanikupuapa-i-kalani-nui, Father of Hawaii Kings, and His Descendants, with Notes on Kamehameha I, First King of All Hawaii," in 1920.
G. "Elizabeth was the last survivor from the Chief's Children's School and was recognized as the last voice of ancestral authority of the Kamehameha Dynasty" (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 18).
H. She had no children (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 1 p 35; Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 31). She adopted her niece Theresa Owana Kaohelelani (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 18).
