MATHIAS B. NYGAARD AND DOROTHEA IVERSON FAMILY
Mathias B. Nygaard left Norway at an early with his parents with the last name Boreson. His name was changed to Nygaard when he came to America. Nygaard means "new farm". Mathais was born April 22, 1843, in Naes, Hedemarken, Norway. He died November 12, 1926. He is buried in East Cemetery, Hendricks, Minnesota.
Dorothea Iverson, born in1836, in Oslo, Norway. Dorothea died February 22, 1911 in Hendricks, Minnesota. She is buried in East Cemetery, Hendricks, Minnesota. Dorothea was a weaver in Oslo, Norway.
Mathais and Dorothea were married in 1868 and in that same year emigrated from Norway to America. They came first to Illinois and lived there for one year. From there they moved to Allemakee County, Iowa. They made their home there until the spring of 1876 at which time they came to Lincoln County, Minnesota and homesteaded. The farm was purchased from the railroad company; sold to his son, Mathais M. in 1896. After his brother's death, Carl, bought the farm from his father. Additional land was bought in later years from the railroad company and in turn sold off in parcels to sons and daughters of Mathais B. Nygaard.

Bore M. Nygaaard, born August 14, 1870 in Allemakee County, Iowa; died 1944 in Hendricks, MN. Bore was 6 years old when he came to Lincoln County with his parents. He married Gina Sollien, born 1865 in Spring Grove, MN; died April 10, 1899. Bore and Gina had three children: Adolph, Dorothea and Martin who was killed in World War II.
Bore married Beret Nordaune in 1909. Beret was born August 12, 1874 in Norway; died January 24, 1968 in Hendricks, Minnesota. Beret had one child, Clara. Clara died in 1979.
Bore farmed west of the Nygaard home place and in later years retired in Hendricks. He enjoyed playing his violin as an every evening event and in earlier years, he played for weddings.

Carl Johan Nygaard, born 1873; in Allemakee County, Iowa; died April 21, 1956. He was 3 years old when the family came to Minnesota from Allemakee County, Iowa. Carl bought the Nygaard homestead from his dad after his brother, Mathais M. Nygaard, died of an accident on April 21, 1899. Carl loved to play the organ and filled in as church organist at times. He also liked photography. Carl married Carrie Berge later in life.
Mathais M. Nygaard, born April 21, 1874 in Allemakee County, Iowa, died April 21, 1899, an accidental fall from the hayloft in the barn. There was a game of tag and Mathais ran and leaned on the hayloft door and it open up causing his fall.
Mathais purchased the farm from his father in 1896.
Gustav M. Nygaard, born November 19, 1875 in Allemakee County, Iowa; died
August 8, 1948, Hendricks. He married Petra Fjeseth April 5, 1897. Gust was among the early confirmands of the Calvary Lutheran Church under Rev. Solensten in 1891. Anna Nygaard, born January 15, 1882 in Hendricks; died April 9, 1975. She married Christ Aasen. She had a son, Marvin Aasen who lived in Canby, MN. Christ Aasen died in 1920. In 1925, Anna married Chris Olson, who died in 1947.
Dina Nygaard, born February 14, 1877 in Hendricks, MN; died January 1962 in Saskatchewan, Canada. First husband, John Peterson; second husband, Andrew Jensen Sollein.
Mathias and Dorothea's farm was about 3 miles north of Hendricks, Minnesota.
The Nygaard family loved music and I have been told by the neighbors who lived on the near farms that on many night they would listen to the Nygaard boys play in their family band. The Nygaards had their own band as they played many instruments.
