Nels H. Ronning Laid to Rest
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. A. Ericksen on Monday afternoon, April 2, 1951, for Nels H. Ronning, a resident of this community for many years. A short service at the home preceded the last rites at Calvary Lutheran church. Musical numbers consisted of a vocal solo by Mrs. Ericksen at the home, and two numbers by the male quartette at the church.
Interment was in the East Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were P. C. Hinsverk, Andrew Hexum, Nels Digre, Alfred Erickson, Eddie Pederson and P. J. Ness.
Nels H. Ronning was born on August 24, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Ronning. He was born in Storen, Norway. At the age of 24 years he came to America, emigrating almost immediately to Toronto, S.D. For a few years he was employed during the summer season on farms in this area, and in the winter seasons, he worked in lumber camps of Wisconsin and Minnesota.
On June 27, 1906, he was united in marriage to Bertha Pederson. The following years they moved onto a farm southwest of Hendricks, where the family home has since been. They were the parents of two children, one of whom passed away in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Ronning and one son, Eddie, and two grandchildren.
Mr. Ronning had been in failing health for the past two years. Following a short stay at the Hendricks hospital, death came on Friday evening, March 30, at the age of 78 years, seven months and six days.
