Myrtle Elenora Skovly
(25 Mar 1914 - 25 Oct 2005)
Myrtle Elnora Skovly was born 25 Mar 1914, at rural Brandt, Scandinavia township, Deuel County, SD, to Martin and Lovisa Berger Skovly. When she was about 14, the family moved to a farm in rural Astoria, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in Wood Lake Lutheran church, rural Astoria.
She married Nels Pederson, a son of Christian and Anna Thoreson Pederson, of Hendricks, MN, on Friday, 28 April 1939 at the home of her parents in rural Astoria, SD. Myrtle was attended by her sister, Miss Ethel Skovly, of Sioux Falls, SD and the groom by his brother, Alvin Pederson, of Hendricks, MN. They made their home at Morton, MN, where they had a shoe shop. In Nov. 1939, they moved to rural Hendricks, where they both worked on the Peter Sandro farm. Later, they moved to Minneapolis, and then after World War II, moved back to the Peder Sandro farm. In 1952, they returned to Minneapolis for the final time, and Myrtle worked for Reverend Evald Conrad, was self-employed making lefse and was the senior cook at Endicott Coffee shop in St. Paul, MN, until her retirement in 1977.
Nels died in 1990, and Myrtle continued to live in the condo that she and Nels had moved into shortly before his death. A couple years later, she moved to Huntington Beach, CA, to live with their son, Clifton and his wife, Janelle, and their family. She had her own living rooms there, and was happy and believed she made the right decision to accept their invitation to move there, and helped around the house while her health permitted.
She reached her 90th birthday and many family members came to help her celebrate.
When Myrtle died 25 Oct. 2005 at Newport Beach, CA, a memorial service was held in CA, and the funeral was held in Hendricks. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the East Cemetery, Hendricks, MN
She leaves 2 sons: Milan and his wife, Kathy and Clifton and his wife, Janelle; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
