Christine Sagmoe laid to rest
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Christine Sagmoe at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the First Lutheran Church, Pastor Melby officiating.  A ladies' trio, Mrs. LoWayne Dorn, Mrs. Clarence Sandro and Mrs. Clifford Engesmoe, accompanied by Mrs. Roger Engen, sang "Amazing Grace" and "There is a Place of Quiet Rest" at the family service.  A ladies' quartette, Mrs. Josephine Lokken, Mrs. Dora Kvernmo, Mrs. Bennie Thoreson and Mrs. Adolph Wahlstrom, accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, sang "Abide with Me" and "Have Thine Own Way" at the church service.  Darice Sandro was the organist.  Pallbearers were Duane Sagmoe, Gregory Sagmoe, Roger Engen, Deane Sagmoe, Curtis Page and Jerald Kluess.  Interment was in the Hendricks cemetery.
Christine Iverson was born on Sept. 15, 1881 in Alen, Norway, to parents Lisabet and IverLarstivold.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  At the age of 19 years, she immigrated to America, making her home with an aunt, Mrs. Knute Stover Nelson, 4 miles southeast of Hendricks.  She made many friends, working as a hired girl and at cafes in Hendricks and Brookings.
On November 9, 1907, she was married to Peter Sagmoe in the East Church by Rev.Solenstein.  For four years, they farmed in partnership with his father.  In 1911, they moved to a farm 4 miles southeast of Hendricks, where they lived for the next 57 years.  To this union, four children were born: Gladys (Mrs. Norvald Trooien), and Kenneth, both of Hendricks; Perry (deceased) and Leda Page of Harrison, Ga. Her husband passed away Jan 7, 1951.  Perry, with whom she lived, passed away Dec. 19, 1968.  Since then, she had made her home with theNorvald Trooien family.
Throughout the years, Christine has enjoyed many varied activities.  She was a member of First Lutheran and it's LCW. She belonged to the Up To The Minute Extension club and a sewing club.  She returned to Norway in 1952 to visit relatives and enjoyed a trip to Georgia last March.
She passed away at the Hendricks hospital on June 18 after a brief illness at the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
She leaves to mourn: Gladys and Kenneth of Hendricks and Leda of Harrison, Ga.; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother; her husband, Peter; her son, Perry; a grandson, Thomas Page III and a son-in-law, Thomas Page.  Blessed be her memory.
Those attending from a distance came from Brookings and Astoria, SD; Conrad and Des Moines, Iowa; and Ivanhoe, Lake Benton, Minneapolis and Golden Valley, Minnesota.
