Budal bygdeboka p 115

Ellef Jacobsen was born Jan. 18, 1818 in Sørløkken, Norway. In 1841 he married Marit Bersvendsdtr. Fjeset. She died in 1872. In America, he used the name Eleev Jacobsen Lokkesmoe.
In 1876, Ellef Jacobsen left Norway and came to Lincoln County, MN. With him were his son Bersvend Lokkesmoe and Bersvend's wife Ingrid Arntsdt. Enkroken. Bersvend and Ingrid had 7 children - 2 of which died before one year of age, and one who died at age 11. Those who reached adulthood were Ellef, Martin, Berith, and Julius. Ellef was a well driller. Martin was a minister who married Ingeborg Knutson. Together they had 6 children. Berith never married. Julius was a teacher and at one time owned a dairy farm. He and his wife Alpha Sunde had 3 children. Bersvend died Jan. 5, 1895 and Ingrid in 1929.
Ellef Jacobsen didn't feel that he was able to keep the farm in Lincoln County going, so he wrote to his grandson in Norway, Ellef J. Lovro, and asked him to come to America and help. With the help of a Mr. Hansen, Ellef Jacobsen was able to hold onto the farm until Ellef J. Lovro & his wife "Sophie" Kirstie Sophie Elvinsdt. Moen arrived in the Hendricks area in 1897. With them were their two sons, Jacob and Even. Ellef J. and Sophie Lovro farmed in the Hendricks area all of their lives. Together, they had 8 children.
Ellef Jacobsen died on Jan 9, 1908 at age 89; Ellef J. Lovro died May 17, 1937 at 71 yrs. old; and Sophie died May 9, 1968 at 97 years old. All are buried in the Singsaas Lutheran Church cemetery, rural Hendricks. When Sophie was 87, there was an article in the Hendricks newspaper about her being the oldest settler remaining in the region. It states, “Although Mrs. Sophia Lovro is 87 years old, she lives alone and likes it. Mrs. Lovro is the oldest settler remaining in the region. She came to this country from Norway and has lived for 60 years on a farm near Hendricks. She lives in a small home her sons built for her near son Even's home, and does all of her own work. She keeps busy crocheting and making rugs of many kinds. She loves flowers and takes care of her yard during the summer. She is active and alert.”
Ellef J. and Sophie Lovro’s son Even, with his wife Laura Bertine Friestad, were the next owners of Ellef and Sophie's farm. Even and Laura had 3 sons, all of whom still live in or near Hendricks. Prior to Laura’s marriage to Even, she was first married to Even’s older brother Jacob Lovro. Jacob died in 1922. Laura and Jacob had 1 daughter. Five years later, Even and Laura were married. Together they farmed/lived in the Hendricks area for their entire life. In 1972, at age 76, Even died. Laura died in 2000 at 106 yrs old. Both Even and Laura, along with Laura’s daughter Judith, are buried in Singsaas Lutheran Church cemetery, rural Hendricks, MN
Hans Lovro, one more of Ellef Jacobsen's grandsons, also came to the Hendricks area. Hans came in 1905. He went back to Norway in 1908 to get his fiancée, Oline Haseth. They were married in the Singsaas Lutheran Church in the fall of 1908. Hans and Oline lived in the Hendricks area until 1919, then moved to Bonetraill, ND. Hans and Oline had 5 children, 3 born in the Hendricks area and 2 born in ND.
