Johanna came to America from Norway in 1878 with her mother, father, and seven and brothers. According to the 1900 Census of South Dakota she was listed as head of family. There wasn't any information on her husband except that the occupation listed was house roofer.

She is called by the surname Rosbjorgen in the Støren Book but she never used that surname in America. That was not the last farm she lived on in Norway as the Røros rail line took the farm by eminent domain about 1874. - He was a farmer on family homestead but also lived in Brookings, SD for at least 2 years around 1890. He was a roofer in Sioux Falls when he died. After Gilbert died, Johanna married Tobias (Toby) Sand (1/6/1879 - 4/6/1955) on 1/10/1901. Toby's father was Kristian Theodora Olson Sand (called Theodore)(12/10/1853 - 10/4/1947)(Son of Ole Starnes). He was married twice - to Gjertine Grieslie & on 4/9/1888 to Ellen Gjertine Tollaksdatter Lane.
