Funeral services for Clara Ronning, 99, of Hendricks, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, with Rev. G. Duane Baun officiating. Burial was in the Hendricks City Cemetery, Duane Hogie was the vocalist, singing "His Eye Is On The Sparrow:, Jullie Hogie was the organist, with the congregation singing "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Beautiful Savior". The pallbearers were Paul Kvernmoe, Kenneth Midtuane, Glen Midtuane, Menter Mathison, Duane Hogie, and Brett Mathison, Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hendricks Hospital Chapel, and continued at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
Mrs. Ronning died on Saturday, April 17, at the Hendricks Community Hospital. The Birk Funeral Home in Hendricks was in charge of the arrangements.
Clara Ronning was born on Jule 29, 1904, on a farm west of Hendricks in Brookings County, South Dakota. She was one of six children born to Haldo and Anna (Setereng) Kvernmoe. She attended country school, and was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church in rural Hendricks.
As a young woman, Clara worked as a nurses' aide at the Hendricks Hospital, where she was employed since the hospital was first opened in 1926. She continued her employment there for many years. In October of 1951, Clara was married to John Ronning, and the couple lived for a time in the upstairs quarters at the home of Clara's parents. They soon moved to a farm east of Hendricks, where they farmed for many hears. Following their retirement they moved into a home in Hendricks.
John passed away in 1991 and Clara continued to live at home until moving to the Lincoln Lane Villa Apartments. She became a resident of the Hendricks Nursing Home in November of 1997. Clara is remembered as a kind caring and friendly person, who always demonstrated the love of Christ through her life. She enjoyed having fun while visiting and playing games with family and friends.
Clara is survived by her sister, Luella Pederson of Hendricks; two nephews; one niece, and by her several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, tow brothers, and two sisters. Blessed Be Her Memory
