Ingeborg Moen
(8 Dec 1884 - )
Submitted by Mark Bogen, July 2012:
Lars and Olava were my dad's mother's parents. Dad's mother was Christine Moen.
Andrew and Inga moved to southwest North Dakota, near Bowman, in about 1912, where there were still homesteads available. The early years out there were very brutal with the harsh open prairie conditions and the frigid winters. Aunt Inga used to cry herself to sleep so many times, she was so lonely, or so the story goes. Andrew was not only a farmer, he was sheriff of Slope County for a number of years, had his office in Amidon, the county seat. I can still hear stories of Andrew and Inga when I go to Luther Seminary Midwinter Convocation. Pastor Jerry Erickson and his wife are always there -- they're in their upper 70's, but they were Andrew and Inga's pastor for many years at Bowman Lutheran, and did their funerals. He can retell the stories that Andrew told him about life on the homestead. One was about the first winter, when they were in a tar shack during a blizzard, praying that the wind wouldn't blow it over and they would freeze to death.
