there may be important clues to his parents and siblings in the 1906 atlas referenced above, because there were a lot of Nelsons in Rhoda Twp and several with land holdings apparently adjacent to or near his.

There is an older woman in the household in the 1900 census listed as Isabell (sic) Nelson. Her relationship looks like "Aunth" (sic) -- and definitely not like "Mother" which is written for another listee a few lines below. She could be an aunt of Andrew if she were his father's sister (an unmarried woman), or she could be an aunt of Andrew by marriage if she were the widow of Andrew's father's brother.
