James was born about 1759. James Lackey ... James, served in Major Gilmore's volunteer militia company, the Rockbridge Rifles, who fought with distinction in the pivotal battle of the Southern campaign, the Battle of Cowpens. James would marry Major Gilmore's daughter, Isabella. Their youngest child, Mary Jane Eglantine Lackey, would marry a cousin, Nathan Lackey, which puts Major Gilmore in this ancestry line as well.
He passed away in 1839.
