James Bennett

== Biography ==James Bennet is the fourth child and second son of Richard Bennett, son of Thomas, who in 1682 patented 630 acres in the Lower Parish of Surry County, Virginia.
James was mentioned as “godson” in the Will of Joyce Cripps, wife of George Cripps and former wife of Francis England, the 8th of April 1679.
In 1694, James was living in the Lower Parish of Surry County. On August 19, 1718, Charles Binns, his neighbor, deeded him the neck of land between Pocatink and Bridge Swamps containing 90 acres, witnesses were John Allen and Thomas Holt. (W&D., 1715-30, p. 139) James willed this tract to his son, William.

Probated October 17, 1752 (WB3, P804, Surry Co)I, James Bennett, of Southwark Par, of Surry Co, give to my son William Bennett , plantation on which he now lives and part of a tract formerly bought of Charles Binns; to my son 20 sh; to my son John all my carpenter’s tools now in his possession. To daus. Anne, Martha, Mary, & Sarah personalty. To my dtr Bridget the use of my best house and as much land as she can work. To my son Samuel the use of my plantation where he now lives. After death of Samuel and his wife w/o male issue, I give plantation to my gr/son Thomas Bennett, s/o William. Son Samuel to be Exr. Teste: Charles Binns, Wm Godwyn, Wm Batt, Wm Clark
