Amy was possibly guardian of Obediah Vowell
I would like to clarify some information in Will Hendricks' message #581.Records of Granville Co., NC, state that on May 9, 1776, Obediah Vowell, an orphan of Granville Co., NC, was bound out to Ellis Drewry of Granville Co. to become a planter.Obediah was 8 years old at the time which indicates he was born in 1768.Ellis Drewry's wife was Amy Rose; most researchers believe Amy's maiden name was Langston; she had previously been married to William Rose.Ellis Drewry died in 1779 and left 100 pounds from his estate to "Obey Vowel" to be given to Obey when he reached the age of 21 years. In 1785, the widow Amy Drewry married George Bruce.
The legacy of 100 pounds was a fairly large sum of money in those days. There must have been a significant reason why Ellis Drewry specified such a large amount of money for Obey Vowell. It seems highly likely that Ellis Drewry's wife Amy had some close connection with Obediah Vowell; however, we currently don't know what the connection was. Some files on the Internet show Amy was Obediah's mother, but to my knowledge, no document has been found to prove who Obediah's mother was.
Because Obediah Vowell was only 11 years old when Ellis Drewry died in 1779 and because of Obediah's inheritance of 100 pounds from Ellis Drewry's estate, Obediah needed a new Guardian to manage his property.
The document from Granville Co., NC, Loose Estate Papers, Box 181 and folder Vowel, William 1779, that Will Hendricks described is dated Aug. 3, 1779.On that day, John Russell of Granville Co. was nominated and appointed Guardian of Obediah Vowell, orphan of William Vowell, deceased. There is no further information in the document about William Vowell. The man who posted Security for that guardianship, James Langston, is believed to be brother of Amy (Langston) Rose Drewry Bruce.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Vowel or Vowell, FrazierFrom various sources, I have the following info. on the surname Vowel or Vowell of Granville Co., NC:
Records of "Orphans in the County" show that on May 9, 1776, Obediah Vowel, age 8 on April 7, 1776, was bound to Ellis Drewry to become a planter. Obediah must have been born April 7, 1768.
The 1779 will of Ellis Drewry promised that "when Obey Vowel comes to age 21, he shall receive 100 pds. legacy from my estate."
Obediah Vowel married Rachel Frazier, daughter of Malachi Frazier, on September 6, 1786. He is said to have had a 2nd wife, last name Conger.
The 1787 will of George Bruce was witnessed by Rachel Vowel whom I assume was Obediah's wife.
George Bruce's wife was Amy who had previously been married to Ellis Drewry and William Rose. Amy's maiden name said to be Langston.

Coroner was paid for inquest on body of Mary Vowell in 1786 or 1787.

Francis Fannie Vowell married John Tyree about 1763.
Thomas Vowel and Nancy Simmons were issued marriage license July 7, 1815. Mathew Vowel's name is on marriage record, maybe bondsman or witness.
Other Vowells may have married into the Frazier family, and some may have married into the Hester family.
Searching for possible connections between Obediah Vowell and these people and also for parents/siblings of Obediah Vowell.
