George & Lucinda Langston Thompson are my direct lineage, I've been researching them for years. Here is what I've found via direct sources.
Regarding her maiden name and who she married we are real clear:
1.) The Will of John Langston (names Lusia Thompson)
1790 Greenville County, S.C. Will Book A, Page 29 Apt. 5 File 288
2.) 2 November 1759 - Granville Co., N.C., Deed Book D, p. 18.John Langston of Granville Co., N.C., deeds (deed of gift) to '''George Thompson''' of the same place, for certain amount (no amt. specified), 374 acres of land on south side of Tar River, in Granville County, N.C., at McCulloch’s and John Adcock’s lines.
WITNESSES: Joseph Langston and Absolom Langaton. Her father is gifting land to his son in-law George Thompson in 1759; I would speculate that was about the year George married Lucinda.
When did her husband George die? Who were their children?Lucy married to George Thompson (He died 1783 Abbeville, 96th Dist, SC)
Box 92, Pack 2278, Aug. 11, 1783
Adm-Lucy ThompsonSec: Burrel Thompson, Jechonias Langston, '''*Thos. Williams''' (bond for 2,000 lbs)
Inv. made by: Samuel Lemaster?, Moses Spann, Jechonias Langston
Est. Sale, Nov 12, 1783 -Buyers:Lucy Thompson, Burrell, Samuel, Fanney, George, Selah, Stephen, & Balam Thompson, Moses Spann, Wm. Bratcher*Thomas Williams – Was married to Rebecca Langston ½ sister to Lucinda
Where did they all go? Warren and Allen Counties KY (neighboring counties).
They came with the James & Frances Langston McElroy's (she was another sister to Lucinda/Lucy).
1797 Warren Co. KY Tax List
Thompson, Burrell (Burwell)
Stephen md. Nancy Owen 27 Dec 1800 Warren Co KY - the marriage was performed by Rev. Ragland Langston, nephew to Lucy Langston Thompson!
Balaam - Sarah Langston MacElroy married 15 Jun 1808, Warren Co., KY. They were ½ first cousins; she the daug. of James MacElroy and Frances Langston, the ½ sister to Lucinda Langston Thompson..
1810 Warren Co. KY Census Baliam Thompson X X X 1 X 1 X 1 X 1this means 1 male age 26-44; girls 1 aged under 10; 1 age 16-25; 1 other free person (?)
The following legal document, dated 1820, is simply referencing Lucy's land as a point of reference for the land Mr. Sharp is buying. He is not buying her land.
ALLEN CO, KY DEED BOOK C 1820-1825 Pg 7-8 Jan 5, 1820 between SOLOMON P. SHARP of Bowling green Kentucky and JOHN H. NANNY of Allen County for $600 sell to said NANNEY land containing 200 acres in the county of Allen on Johns creek and bounded 100 yards below LUCY THOMPSONs line LANGSTONs line Signed SOLOMON P. SHARP, ELIZA T. SHARP. ELIZA T. SHARP relinquish her Dower to the land.
BUT...five years later in 1825 the next lawsuit lays out clearly that Lucy is now deceased and there is trouble in the family over her 200 acres:
ALLEN CO, KY DEED BOOK C 1820-1825 : Pg469-70 Nov 21, 1825 between BURWELL THOMPSON, SAMUEL THOMPSON, FANNY SHAROON, STEPHEN THOMPSON, POLLY BETHEL late POLLY THOMPSON, ELIZABETH KIRKLAND late ELIZABETH THOMPSON, POLLY THOMPSON the widow of EPHRIM THOMPSON dec'd, and THOMAS THOMPSON, PHEBE THOMPSON, SHELBY THOMPSON, ____ THOMPSON and _____ THOMPSON heirs... of sd EPHRAIM dec'd and LETT GARRETT late LETTY THOMPSON all of them being heirs ... of LUCY THOMPSON dec'd by JACOB WALKER commsr of the decree of the Allen Circuit court ...of the first part and BALAM THOMPSON of the second part ... Aug 1825 BALAM THOMPSON complainant agst EPHRIAM THOMAS defts having failed to appear JACOB WALKER to convey by deed all their right and title which the sd LUCY THOMPSON have in .. the tract of land containing 200 acres in the county of Allen on the waters of Johns creek and bounded ... MARTIN MAUDNYs line... Signed: BURWELL THOMPSON, SAMUEL THOMPSON, FANNEY SHAROD, STEPHEN THOMPSON, POLLY BETHEL, ELIZABETH KIRTLAND, POLLY THOMPSON, THOMAS THOMPSON, PHEBE THOMPSON, SHELLY THOMPSON, ____ THOMPSON, LETTY GARRETT , _____ THOMPSON '
So we know Lucy was deceased by 1825 in either Allen Co. KY or possibly she removed with her sons when they all left for Franklin Co. TN.
The family moved again in a group to Franklin Co. TN
Her son Stephen wrote the following letter to the Federal Government in 1836: stating his father George Thompson lost his life in the service of his country leaving his mother with nine children. Sons William, Burrell/Burwell and Stephen all applied for their Rev. War Pensions in Franklin Co. TN
There are MANY other records of cousins, marriages etc. etc. in the Allen and Warren Co. KY area.
