He is said to have had, as early as July 1638, a planting lot in 'Reedy Marsh,' and a house lot in town. An old record is quoted in Essex Co. Hist. & Gen. Register, to wit: 'Whereas Isaac Comings...Sold Andrew Hodges of this town all the said seven acres of land, more or less, lying near highway to Jeffries Neck, 1639, 26, (6).' The name appears on a list of Freemen in Watertown, 1642. In 1652, Samuel Symonds and his wife Martha sell him in consideration of ?30, 150 acres 'joining partly on Daniel Clark's land.' This Clark was an early settler of Topsfield. Mr. Samuel Todd, who married one of the Cummings descendants, and who had given much attention to this research, once wrote me: 'There is evidence that the first Isaac owned considerable land on the west side of Howlet's (then Winthrop's) brook, pretty near two miles N. W. of the old Cummings place on this side of the river.' 'One hundred acres lying on the westerly side and fifty acres on the easterly side,' so says Historical Collections, Vol. V. of Topsfield Historical Society.
"In I666 he was constable, and his son Isaac was his deputy, and in a deposition he states his age to be 65. The same year he was assessed 4s. 7d. to pay the town's indebtedness. He was deacon of the church, and in 1676, at least, moderator of the town meeting. No mention remains of his wife nor of her name. She was not living when his will was made, May 8, 1677. It is on file in the probate office, but unrecorded." (From the Cummings Memorial): Note:Lived in Mistley, Essex, ENGLAND from May 20, 1629 to February 22, 1634/35. Moved to Watertown, MA in 1635 where he received 35 acres of land which were part of the "Great Dividend". Acquired land in Ipswich, MA before July 25, 1638 and in Topsfield, MA by April 1, 1652. Juryman of Topsfield in 1675; moderator of town meeting in 1676; and was deacon of church for many years.
=== From Cutter's Historic Homes ==="Isaac Cummings, the immigrant ancestor of David Cummings, was born in 1601. He appears in Ipswich, Massachusetts, in 1641, in the list of commoners, and is said to have had a planting lot in the town as early as July, 1638. He was admitted a freeman in 1642; was a constable in 1666 with his son Isaac as his deputy; was elected deacon of the church in 1676, and was often moderator of the town meetings. His will was dated May 8, 1677. His children were: Ann, born 1629, married John Pease; John, born about 1630; Isaac, see forward; Elizabeth, married John Jewell."Cutter Page 797
"Isaac Cummings was the first Cummings who emigrated from England and settled in this country. In a deposition made by him in March, 1666, he gave his age as sixty-five years, showing his birth to have been about 1601. His will shows his death to have occurred, per date of the instrument and filing of the inventory and probating of the will, between May 8 and May 22, 1677. The spelling of the name has been various in this country, but Cummings appears to be the standard form. We take no note of the numerous traditions tracing the connection back to a Scottish clan which flourished from 1080 to 1330, also to 1093, to the times of Malcolm III, also the name as taken from the town of Comines in France. These are treated in full in the different genealogies which have been published upon the subject of the family. In 1639 Isaac Cummings owned a house and lot in Ipswich village, and also possessed land being partly in Ipswich and partly in Tops- field. He was made a freeman in 1642, and at different periods bought more or less land. He was called Goodman, was chosen grand juryman in 1675, and was moderator of the town meeting in 1676, and deacon of the church in Topsfield for many years. When he arrived in this country he was for a brief period an inhabitant of Watertown. No mention remains of the name of his wife, and she was not living when his will was made."Cutter Page 818

Isaac CUMMINGS aka Isaack COMMEN 1601-1677
Isaac Cummings came from England to this country in October, 1635. The first mention of his name in Middlesex County records is an entry made by the town clerk of Watertown as receiving a grant of 35 acres in the earliest general land grants in 1636 called the "Great Dividends". Also, a record exists made by the Town Clerk of Ipswich, showing that he owned a planting lot near Reedy marsh, in that town, previous to July 25, 1638.
On the 9th of the second month (April) of 1639, he also owned a house lot in Ipswich village on the street called the East End, next to the lot owned by Rev. Nathaniel Rogers. He was a commoner in 1639, and the same year sold 7 acres of land near the highway leading to Jeffrey's Neck to Andrew Hodges. He also possessed, in 1639, land adjoining John Winthrop and William Goodhue, the farm being partly in Ipswich and partly in Topsfield. He was a proprietor in Watertown in 1642, and at Topsfield afterward, where he was one of 30 commoners.
As an Ipswich commoner he was one of those "that have the right of commonage there the last of the last month (Feb), 1641", and was made a freemanin Watertown May 18, 1642. On the first day of the second month (April), 1652,Isaac Cummings, for 30 pounds, bought of Samuel Symonds, 150 acres of land, "being the North-east corner of his farm called Ollivers". This lot of land was in Topsfield and bounded on the west and north-west by land lately of John Winthrop, on the south and west by land of Francis Peabody, and on the south by land of Daniel Clark.
The farm began at what is known as the Hobbs-Bell place, and continued down both sides of the brook, then called "Winthropps", to what is now called Howlett's Brook, one hundred acres lying on the westerly side and fifty acres on the easterly side, probably joining other land belonging to him.
There are several court records of him:
1."Goodman Isaac Cummings of Topsfield, having claimed ownership of a heifer in the possession of John Fuller and driven same to his home" had suit brought against him, March 28, 1654.
2.Isaac Comings, senior was witness against Wm. Duglas, March1656.
3.Isaac Commins, senior was sued for debt by Zerobabell Phillips of Ipswich March 1657.
4.Isaac Cummings, senior brought suit against John Fuller for damage done in his corn by swine belonging to said Fuller, Dec. 31, 1656. In 1666 he was constable, and his son Isaac was his deputy, and in a deposition he made in March, 1666, he states his age to be 65. The same year he was assed 4 s. 7d. to pay the town's indebtedness. He was deacon of the church for many years and was chosen grand juryman in 1675. He was a moderator of the Town meeting in 1676. His estate was valued at about 166 pounds. No trace of his wife's family name is found. She was not living at the time of his will.

Isaac's Parents
By David Butler Cummings
Isaac Cummings was baptized 5 April 1601 at Easthorpe, Essex, England, the son of John and Amy (Green) Cummings. This is a major conclusion of the research detailed below.
In June I posted a retraction of false information on the Cummings family in Copford, Essex, England that had been supplied by an English genealogist. At that time I stated that Mrs. Jane Bedford, of the Colchester Branch of the Essex County Records Office, had found the correct baptismal records for Isaac and his siblings. These were in the parish of Easthorpe, Essex, which is contiguous to Copford on the southwest. My wife and I agreed with her transcription of the original record under ultra violet light. Those records have also been transcribed by Peter C. Nutt, of Wickford, Essex, England, Genealogist and Record Researcher, who has worked with Abbott Lowell Cummings. The results fit well with other research done by Abbott Lowell Cummings and Peter C. Nutt, and John Plummer. The material in this posting was presented at the Isaac Cummings Family Association reunion on August 14 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

NOTE: Entries above and below this have the day after the month but prior entries have the day first. A mark like a 1 before Novemb may be the day. The meaning of .1.2.3 is not clear. Suggestions are 1) triplets, 2) the first three of their children, or 3) they are buried on top of each other. We do not know which children were buried. There are gaps in the birth sequence in which 3 or 4 children could have been born.
1612 The wife of John Comens Noveb 3 (This is presumably Amy).
Marriages
There is no specific date, but the following entry appears between 1 Sep 1590 and 26 Feb 1593/1594. In the IGI it is given as 1591.
Matrimony was solemnised the [Blank] Daie of [Blank] Between [Blank] Commins and Amy Greene Daughter of John Grene of much-birch. [also known as Great Birch]
Considering: 1) the proximity of Copford and Easthorpe, 2) no other marriage for John has been found, 3) the children of John began after this marriage, and 4) John owned land in Copford (see below), this is probably the marriage of John Commin, the father of children in both parishes.
Land Survey
The following document was also found by Jane Bedford showing John was a landowner in Copford in the third year of the reign of King James I [1606] which is consistent with his marriage and children born there.
Uncatalogued survey of the manor of Copford 13 January 3 James I [1606], Essex Records Office accession C891 [will be catalogued as part of D/DV 161/ ]
John Cumyne claims to hold by virtue of the surrender by Robert Noothe and Marger[y] his wifeand Thurston Noothe, one tenement and one virgate of heriotable [land] containing XXX ta [?30] acres called from ancient times Goreland alias Hedghouse and now Fullers and one croft containing five [?] acres of land called Hedgland, parcel of Hedgeland tenement.
The information above leads to the following family group:
John Commin, born about 1565, of Copford and Easthorpe.
His father might possibly be Johannes (John) Cowman, baptized 23 Jul 1561 at Bocking, Essex, found in the IGI and confirmed in the Bocking parish register, SLFHL Film 1471886, Extracted SLFHL Film 0472340. Bocking is about eleven miles from Copford whereas Mistley, where Isaac's first four children were born, is about thirteen miles from Copford.
Married 1590/1594 at Copford.
Amy Greene, born about 1569, daughter of John Greene of Much (Great)Birch. Died 3 Nov 1612 at Copford.
1. John1 Commin, baptized 17 Jun 1595 at Easthorpe (Probably John of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex)
2.Ursely Commin, baptized 8 May 1597 at Easthorpe
3.Abraham Commin, baptized 11 Nov 1599 at Easthorpe (Probably Abraham of Woolverstone, Suffolk)
4.Izahk Com[m]in, baptized 5 Apr 1601 at Easthorpe
5.Mary Comming, baptized 10 Nov 1605 at Copford
6.John2 Commin, baptized 25 Mar 1608 at Copford
7.(?) [Blank] Comyns, baptized 28 Feb 1619/1620 at Copford. (This could be a child that might have caused Amy's death in 1612 and was not baptized until later, or it could be the daughter of a another wife, or the daughter of a different John Comyns)
Isaac Cummings served as constable in Topsfield,Massachusetts, and as such gave depositions in 1666 and 1673 in which his age would yield a birth in 1600/1601. This fits precisely with the birth of Izahk above.
The following data come from an article by Abbott Lowell Cummings in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol 163, January 1999, especially pages 64 through 66. A court record in 1631 in Mistley recorded the theft of goats belonging to Isaac Cummyn and Abr. Cummyn, in a "cote" or pen. Their having livestock in the same pen would suggest a relationship between Isaac and Abraham. In addition, he quotes from the will of Abraham Comin, yeoman, then of Much Tey, Essex, dated 10 January 1656. In it he named his son John Comyns executor, and a brother, John Comyn of "Tolson Darcey" in Essex, as one of the "supervisors". From the dates of their first children below, the ages of John, Abraham, and Isaac would be in the order of the baptisms above. In addition, all three names were given to children of Abraham. John had only one son, John. Isaac named his sons Isaac and John. All three appear in the family of Isaac's son John. Although the proof is not positive, these three appear to be sons of John and Amy.
John Commin
Using the data of Abbott Lowell Cummings the family of John of Tolleshunt D'Arcy can be assembled as follows using the Easthorpe baptism for the first John and estimated dates for Rebecca and their marriage. The children were all baptized at Tolleshunt D'Arcy.
NOTE: Although it is not common, sometimes there were two or more living children of the same Christian name, especially when the name was John. Peter C. Nutt cited an example of a family with three Johns that were called "Young John," Middle John," and "Old John." Therefore, though more common, having two sons named John does not necessarily mean that the first John died and the name was used again. This is important because the second John would have been too young to have been John of Tolleshunt D'Arcy.
John1 Comyn, baptized 17 Jun 1595 at Easthorpe, about 7 miles from Tolleshunt D'Arcy. Married about 1624.
+Rebecca, born about 1600
1. John, baptized 11 Nov 1625, all at Tolleshunt D'Arcy
2.Rebecca, baptized 25 Sep 1627
3.Elizabeth, baptized 29 Nov 1629, buried14 Jan 1639/1640
4.Mary, baptized 16 Feb 1631/1632
5.Susan, baptized 15 May 1634
6.Sarah, baptized 5 Sep 1636
7.Hannah, baptized 2 May 1641
8.Martha, baptized 25 Aug 1644
9.Elizabeth, baptized 28 Jun 1649, buried 27 Feb 1653/1654.
Abraham Commin
Similarly, the family of Abraham is as follows:
Abraham, baptized 11 Nov 1599 at Easthorpe
Married 31 Jan 1625/1626 at Woolverstone, Suffolk, north from Mistley across the River Stour Estuary.
Margaret Lord, born about 1603, of Woolverstone
1. Margaret, baptized 19 Jul 1627 at Woolverstone, died after 1656
2.Abraham, baptized 26 Sep 1629 at Woolverstone, buried 15 Jul 1647 in Great Tey, Essex
3.Mary, baptized 29 Jul 1632 at Great Bentley, Essex, buried there 19 Mar 1633/1634
4.Isaak, baptized 27 Dec 1634 at Great Bentley, buried there 5 Jan 1636/1637
5.John, baptized 4 Jan 1635/1636 at Great Bentley, buried there 5 Mar 1635/1636
6.Mathew, baptized 16 Jul 1637 at Great Bentley, buried there 23 Dec 1637
7.Mary or Marie, baptized 2 Dec 1638 at Great Bentley, died after 1656
8.Israel, baptized 12 Mar 1644/1645 at Great Tey, Essex, buried there 15 May 1647
9.John, born 3 Oct 1646 at Great Tey, baptized there 11 Apr 1664 NOTE: Age at baptism was 17.
Isaac Commen
Baptized 5 April 1601 at Easthorpe.
Died before 22 May 1677.
Married about 1628.
+Anne, born about 1605, of Mistley<
1. Isaac, baptized 20 May 1629 at Mistley, buried there 23 May 1629
2.John, baptized 9 May 1630 at Mistley, died 1 Dec 1700 at Dunstable, Middlesex,Massachusetts
3.Isaac, baptized 17 Mar 1632/1633 at Mistley, died before 19 Jun 1721 in Topsfield, Essex, Massachusetts
4.Anne, baptized 22 Feb 1634/1635 at Mistley, died 29 Jul 1689 at Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut
5.Elizabeth, born probably 1636/1637 at Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, died 9 Jul 1679 at Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts
The three most authoritative books on Isaac's family are:
•ISAAC CUMMINGS, OF TOPSFIELD, MASS. AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS, Miss Marietta Clark, Mrs. Abbie W.Towne, W. F. Cummings and George Francis Dow, published 1899 by the Topsfield Historical Society
•CUMMINGS MEMORIAL, George W. Mooar, published 1903 New York, by B. F. Cummings
•CUMMINGS GENEALOGY, Albert Oren Cummins, published 1904 Montpelier, Vermont.
All three books stated the name of Isaac Cummings' wife was not known. However, various family collections have given her name as Mary, Marie,Margaret or Elizabeth. Since no evidence for a second marriage has been published, let us hope that Anne will be accepted as Isaac's wife.
Summary
It appears that the baptismal date and place of Isaac Cummings have been found, together with five or six siblings. It appears that the families of John, Abraham, and Isaac have also been identified. A number of probable members of the family of Amy Greene have also been found in Easthorpe, and Birch, which abuts Easthorpe and Copford on the south. Further research is planned on both the Cummings and Greene families which will be sponsored by the Isaac Cummings Family Association.

Isaac-1 CUMMINGS [CUMINGS, COMINS, COMMEN] Although family tradition points to Scotland as the ancestral land of the Cummings family, no record of the birthplace or parentage of Isaac-1 Cummings, the immigrant ancestor has been discovered there. According to the New England Genealogical Register (noted in the sources), an Isaack Commen, who had children exactly matching those of this Isaac, was of Mistley, Essex, England (on the Suffolk border). He disappears from the English records just before appearing in Watertown MA. His three children baptized in Mistley exactly match the American records. The spelling "Commen" is in line with the American variations of the name. Isaac-1 Cummings was born in 1600/1601 according to a deposition dated 27 March 1666 (Essex Court Files, 2:90). He married ANNE --- probably in Essex or Suffolk, England by 1628, as his first known child was baptized at Mistley in early 1629.
Isaac and Anne appear in the Mistley parish registers from 20 May 1629 to 22 February 1634/5. The following year he appears in Massachusetts in "an entry made by the town clerk of Watertown, where his name appears in the records of land grants]. He received a grant of 35 acres of land at Watertown, MA in 1636, and was a land owner at Ipswich MA as early as 25 July 1638, and owned a house lot in Ipswich Village 9, 2 mo 1639. He appears on a list of the "Commoners" of Ipswich, Massachusetts on the last day of the year 1641. This early lot which he owned in Ipswich was a planting lot in "Reedy Marsh," and a house lot in town. An old record is quoted in Essex Co. Historial and Genealogical Register: "Whereas Isaac Comings...Sold Andrew Hodges of this town all the said seven acres of land, more or less, lying near highway to Jeffries Neck, 1639, 26, (6)." The name appears on a list of Freeman in Watertown, 1642. In 1652, Samuel Symonds and his wife Martha sell to him, in consideration of L30, 150 acres "joining partly on Daniel Clark's land." A Cummings descendant (Mr. Samuel Todd) indicates "There is evidence that the first Isaac owned considerable land on the west side of Howlet's (then Winthrop's) Brook, pretty near two miles N.W. of the old Cummings place on this side of the river." "One hundred acres lyding on the westerly side and fifty acres on the easterly side," from Historical Collections, Vol. V, of Topsfield Historical Society.
In 1666 he was constable, and his son Isaac was his deputy, and in a deposition he states his age to be 65. The same year he was assessed 4s 7d. to pay the town's indebtedness. He was deacon of the church and in 1676, moderator of the town meeting. No mention is made of his wife, nor of her name. She was not living when his will was made, May 8, 1677. His estate was appraised at L166 1s 6d with debts amounting to L19. His wife is not mentioned in his will. He died at Topsfield, MA between 8 and 22 May 1677.
Children of Isaac-1 & Anne (?) Cummings:
1. Isaack-2, bp 20 May 1629 in Mistley, England; buried at Mistley, England 23 May 1629.
2. +John CUMMINGS, baptized 9 May 1630 in Mistley England. On the list of Freemen, 1672, his name precedes Isaac's. 1673 he testified in court to being 40 years old; in 1678, 43 (47?); in 1679, 50.
3. Isaac "Isaack" CUMMINGS, baptized 9 May 1630 in Mistley, England. In 1692 he testified to being 60 years; in 1696, 63; m. 27 Nov 1659 Mary Andrews, eldest dau of Robert and Grace Andrews of Rowley Village (Boxford MA). Lived in Ipswich MA; d. in June 1721 in Topsfield MA, had issue.
4. Ann/Anne CUMMINGS, baptized 22 Feb 1634/5 in Mistley England; she was said to be 60 years of age at her death, June 29, 1689 at Enfield CT. She married, 8 Oct 1669 John PEASE, his second marriage. Had 3 children, James, Isaac and Abigail.
5. Elizabeth CUMMINGS, b. ca 1637 probably in Watertown or Ipswich MA; married 2 Apr 1661 John JEWETT. By deed, Feb 28 following the marriage Isaac Cummings conveyed to him a farm in Topsfield "for and in consideration of his marriage with my daughter, Elizabeth. She died 9 July 1679. He married 2) Elizabeth Chadwell, widow of Benjamin Chadwell. After his death, Elizabeth (Chadwell) Cummings married 23 Oct 1716, Dea. Ezekiel Jewett. Elizabeth (Cummings) Jewett had 9 children: Elizabeth, Hannah, Isaac, Sarah, Abigail, John, Abigail (2d), David, Mary, Daniel, Jonathan, Dorcas and Rebecca.

Issac Cummings Jr, b. 1633 in England, came to America about 1645-46, with his father, Isaac Cummings, Sr. The latter made a deposition, March 1666, giving his age as 65, so was therefore born around 1601, in England. Issac Jr. was "of Ispwich, Mass., 1650" and married, 27 Nov. 1659 at Topsfield, Mass., Mary Andrews, (b. 1638, in England; died 1712, Topsfield, Mass; daughter of Robert and Grace Andrews of Topsfield). Issac Jr died, (will probate date) June, 1721, Topsfield, Mass.

Isaac Cummings, likely one of the first and surely the one with the most complete lineage, first appeared in Salem, Mass. in 1636.
He arrived at Salem and went to Watertown, Mass. in 1636 where he recieved a grant of 35 acres of land that year. He also was a land owner at Ipswich, Mass., July 1638 and owned a house lot in Ispwich in Feb. 1639. In the same year, he possessed a farm, partly in Ispwich and partly in Topfield and was admitted freeman, May 18, 1642. He purchased a farm of 150 acres, Feb. 1, 1652 in Topsfield from Samual Symonds and spent the remainder of his life there, being a deacon of the church for many years. He also held numerous town offices. His surname was given as Comin in his last will and testament; it made no mention of his wife's given name. He died shortly before May 22, 1677, the date of the inventory of his estate.

Connections to England
"Immigrants to New England in the 1630s, such as Isaac Cummings, nearly all came from England. Moreover, Isaac's fellow settlers of Watertown& Ipswich, Massachusetts came predominantly from Suffolk and Essex. A search of the Family History Library's International Genealogical Indexes for those two counties brings to light (FHL microfilm #560,909) an Isaack COMMEN who had children exactly matching those of the immigrant. He was of Mistley, Essex, with is right on the Suffolk border. Also of Mistley was Henry Kimball who came on the Elizabeth in 1634 and lived in Watertown, MA.
It seems clear that Isaack COMMEN of Mistley was the immigrant. He disappears from the records there just before appearing in Watertown, MA, where he settled among great numbers of his fellow countrymen, even townsmen. His three children baptized in Mistley exactly match American records. The spelling COMMEN is in line with the American variations.. .
Isaac must fit in somehow with the CUMMINGS family of Essex and Suffolk. No others are found in Mistley, however. There was Stephen COMYNG of Essex in 1273 (Charles Wareing Bardsley, 'A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames', Baltimore, 1967, p 198) when Isaac Cummings' claimed ancestors were still in Scotland. . .
Isaac CUMMINGS was born in 1600/1601, according to a deposition dated27 March 1666 (Essex Court Files, 2:90) or in 1602/3 per a deposition of25 March 1675. He died at Topsfield, Massachusetts, between 8 and22 May 1677 (from probate records). He married ANNE (last name unkown), probably in Essex or Suffolk, England by 1628, as his first known child was baptized at Mistley in early 1629". The first four children are recorded in Mistley (FHL microfilm #560,909, item 2); surname CUMMINGS ".

John Commin
John Commin, born about 1565, of Copford and Easthorpe.
His father might possibly be Johannes (John) Cowman, baptized 23 Jul 1561 at Bocking, Essex, found in the IGI and confirmed in the Bocking parish register, SLFHL Film 1471886, Extracted SLFHL Film 0472340. Bocking is about eleven miles from Copford whereas Mistley, where Isaac's first four children were born, is about thirteen miles from Copford.
Married 1590/1594 at Copford.
Amy Greene, born about 1569, daughter of John Greene of Much (Great) Birch. Died 3 Nov 1612 at Copford.
1. John1 Commin, baptized 17 Jun 1595 at Easthorpe (Probably John of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex)
2. Ursely Commin, baptized 8 May 1597 at Easthorpe
3. Abraham Commin, baptized 11 Nov 1599 at Easthorpe (Probably Abraham of Woolverstone, Suffolk)
4. Izahk Com[m]in, baptized 5 Apr 1601 at Easthorpe
5. Mary Comming, baptized 10 Nov 1605 at Copford
6. John2 Commin, baptized 25 Mar 1608 at Copford
7. (?) [Blank] Comyns, baptized 28 Feb 1619/1620 at Copford. (This could be a child that might have caused Amy's death in 1612 and was not baptized until later, or it could be the daughter of a another wife, or the daughter of a different John Comyns)
Isaac Cummings served as constable in Topsfield, Massachusetts, and as such gave depositions in 1666 and 1673 in which his age would yield a birth in 1600/1601.
In it he named his son John Comyns executor, and a brother, John Comyn of "Tolson Darcey" in Essex, as one of the "supervisors." From the dates of their first children below, the ages of John, Abraham, and Isaac would be in the order of the baptisms above.
Rebecca, born about 1600
1. John, baptized 11 Nov 1625, all at Tolleshunt D'Arcy
2. Rebecca, baptized 25 Sep 1627
3. Elizabeth, baptized 29 Nov 1629, buried 14 Jan 1639/1640
4. Mary, baptized 16 Feb 1631/1632
5. Susan, baptized 15 May 1634
6. Sarah, baptized 5 Sep 1636

8. Martha, baptized 25 Aug 1644
9. Elizabeth, baptized 28 Jun 1649, buried 27 Feb 1653/1654.
Abraham Commin
Similarly, the family of Abraham is as follows:
Abraham, baptized 11 Nov 1599 at Easthorpe
Married 31 Jan 1625/1626 at Woolverstone, Suffolk, north from Mistley across the River Stour Estuary.
Margaret Lord, born about 1603, of Woolverstone
1. Margaret, baptized 19 Jul 1627 at Woolverstone, died after 1656
2. Abraham, baptized 26 Sep 1629 at Woolverstone, buried 15 Jul 1647 in Great Tey, Essex
3. Mary, baptized 29 Jul 1632 at Great Bentley, Essex, buried there 19 Mar 1633/1634
4. Isaak, baptized 27 Dec 1634 at Great Bentley, buried there 5 Jan 1636/1637
5. John, baptized 4 Jan 1635/1636 at Great Bentley, buried there 5 Mar 1635/1636
6. Mathew, baptized 16 Jul 1637 at Great Bentley, buried there 23 Dec 1637
7. Mary or Marie, baptized 2 Dec 1638 at Great Bentley, died after 1656
8. Israel, baptized 12 Mar 1644/1645 at Great Tey, Essex, buried there 15 May 1647
9. John, born 3 Oct 1646 at Great Tey, baptized there 11 Apr 1664 NOTE: Age at baptism was 17.

As an Ipswich commoner he was one of those "that have the right of commonage there the last of the last month (Feb), 1641", and was made a freeman in Watertown May 18, 1642.
1.
"Goodman Isaac Cummings of Topsfield, having claimed ownership of a heifer in the possession of John Fuller and driven same to his home" had suit brought against him, March 28, 1654.
2.
Isaac Comings, senior was witness against Wm. Duglas, March1656.
3.
Isaac Commins, senior was sued for debt by Zerobabell Phillips of Ipswich March 1657.
4.
Isaac Cummings, senior brought suit against John Fuller for damage done in his corn by swine belonging to said Fuller, Dec.

The name appears on a list of Freemen in Watertown, 1642.

In it he named his son John Comyns executor, and a brother, John Comyn of "Tolson Darcey" in Essex, as one of the "supervisors." From the dates of their first children below, the ages of John, Abraham, and Isaac would be in the order of the baptisms above.
Rebecca, born about 1600
1. John, baptized 11 Nov 1625, all at Tolleshunt D'Arcy
2. Rebecca, baptized 25 Sep 1627
3. Elizabeth, baptized 29 Nov 1629, buried 14 Jan 1639/1640
4. Mary, baptized 16 Feb 1631/1632
5. Susan, baptized 15 May 1634
6. Sarah, baptized 5 Sep 1636
7. Hannah, baptized 2 May 1641
8. Martha, baptized 25 Aug 1644
9. Elizabeth, baptized 28 Jun 1649, buried 27 Feb 1653/1654.
Abraham Commin
Similarly, the family of Abraham is as follows:
Abraham, baptized 11 Nov 1599 at Easthorpe
Married 31 Jan 1625/1626 at Woolverstone, Suffolk, north from Mistley across the River Stour Estuary.
Margaret Lord, born about 1603, of Woolverstone

As an Ipswich commoner he was one of those "that have the right of commonage there the last of the last month (Feb), 1641", and was made a freeman in Watertown May 18, 1642.

John Plummer in his "Isaac Cummings of Essex County, Massachusetts" found records for an Isaack Commen (Variant spelling) who had children exactly matching those of the immigrant Isaac Cummings.
*He was of Mistley, Essex, on the Suffolk border. *Henry Kimball who came on the Elizabeth in 1634 and settled in Watertown was also from Mistley in Essex, England. *Isaack Commen has no records in Mistley just before appearing in Watertown, Massachusetts.*The spelling Commen is in line with the American variations which include, among others, Comen.
