On his death, the Earldom of Burlington and Barony of Clifford of Lanesborough became extinct. The Barony de Clifford by writ went to his daughter, and his Irish titles went to his cousin, John Boyle, Earl of Orrery. In 1737 he put in his claim to the Barony of Clifford, and proving himself descended from and heir to Lady Elizabeth Clifford, his great-grandmother, the Barony was adjudged to him.
