== Biography ==
Philip Le Despencer, 2nd Baron le Despenser (c.1365 Nettlestead, Suffolk, England - 20 June 1424) was the son and heir of Philip le Despencer, 1st Baron le Despencer. He was said to be 36 at the death of his father in 1401 (Complete Peerage). He was knighted in 1385.
He married Elizabeth De Tiptoft (or Tibetot, Tybotot), co-heiress and daughter of Robert Tiptoft, 3rd Lord Tybotot and his wife Margaret Deincourt. By this marriage he acquired the manors of Nettlestead and Barrow among others.
Philip's father had been summoned to Parliament, on which basis Philip is described by modern writers as ''de jure'' 2nd Baron le Despenser. But it appears that he himself was never summoned to Parliament, nor were any of his heirs before Sir Thomas Wentworth ("''de jure'' 6th Baron"). Sir Thomas adopted the style Baron Wentworth, and (perhaps for that reason) his summons by writ is regarded as having created a new title, rather than having revived the dormant title. On this basis, the two titles have descended together since then.
Sir Philip died on 20 June 1424 without a male heir. His property and hypothetical title passed to his only daughter, Margery le Despencer, wife of (1st) John de Ros, 7th Baron de Ros and (2nd) Roger Wentworth Esq. Margery and Roger Wentworth were ancestors of Jane Seymour, third queen consort of King Henry VIII.
