Sir Thomas Golding Knt.
( - 1571)
== Biography ==Eldest (or second, according to Richardson) son and heir, by his father's first marriage. Sir Thomas appears in a list of those knighted on 17th November 1549 (although half a dozen in the list were known to be knighted between 1550-53). In 1561 he was Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire and in 1569 Sheriff of Essex.
Sir Thomas was one of the Commissioner for certifying or taking account of the chantry lands in Essex. It is said that "he did not fail to improve the opportunity this commission offered of securing a considerable fortune." In 1564 the Earl of Oxford's rent & farm of the manor of Vaux with all & singular the appurtenances in Belchamp Otten in the said county of Essex, now in the tenure of Thomas Golding, was paid by said Thomas.
Thomas had contested the validity of his father's Will, and his step-mother, Ursula née Marston, as its executrix, but the court ruled in her favour. However, Ursula nevertheless gave way and renounced administration of the Will on 8th June 1549. The reasons for both are unknown.
It is assumed that he married at least twice.
Rev. Jarvis suggests that "George Golding of Poslingford was probably descended from him." This appears to be incorrect. He was Elizabeth Roydon's third husband. As she was 64 when she married Golding it is assumed there was no issue.
