John Malet

( - Bef 1395)

== Biography =="Malet was a retainer of. John of Gaunt and of his son Henry Bolingbroke, later Henry IV. Eleanor."DAME ELEANOR HULL: THE TRANSLATOR AT WORKALEXANDRA BARRATT, Medium Ævum Vol. 72, No. 2 (2003), pp. 277-296Published by: Society for the Study of Medieval Languages and Literature
His daughter Eleanor was "the only child of Sir John Malet of Enmore, Somerset (d. before 1395), retainer of John of Gaunt, duke of Lancaster, and of his wife, Joan (c.1370–1426)"Hull [née Malet], Eleanor, Lady Hull (c. 1394–1460), translator Alexandra Barratt in Oxford Dictionary of National Biography [http://oxfordindex.oup.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/52459]
The Mallet family history suggests that he married in 1380 Joan, daughter of Sir John Hulle of Kyton in Holcombe Rogus, Devon, Knight, one of the Judges of the King's Bench, by his first wife, Dyonisia Durburgh (other genealogies show the name as Hille). There is some suggestion his sister Eleanor (possibly [[Malet-216]] married a Sir William Hody [[Hody-29]], Chief Baron. of the Exchequer but known dates do not align (However William Hody is not thought to have been born until 1441, going by gravesite information)Sir Baldwin MALET [http://www.mallettfamilyhistory.org/tng/getperson.php?personID=I6909&tree=M05] Both John and his sister are believed to have been the children of Baldwin's first wife Elizabeth.
