He was originally espoused to Marion Kennedy, who died young, then to her sister [[Kennedy-2622|Katherine]] before 24 Feb 1472-3, with whom he had four sons:

:The agreement for a marriage between John and Marion Kennedy was made prior to 12 Apr 1459 when John was still under age 14 placing his birth between Apr 1445 and Apr 1459 or 1452 +/- 7 years.
: The date of death is unclear. The earliest reference to his being referred to as John of Craigie is a sasine dated 19 Nov 1499 implies that it was before that date and a lease of lands from the burgh of Prestwick on 5 Dec 1489 implies it might have been a decade earlier. The later date, of course, is more likely true although less accurate if in reality both are true.
