Elizabeth Montgomerie was the the second daughter of Alexander, first Lord Mongomerie, and Margaret, daughter of Sir Thomas Boyd of Kilmarnock.

Elizabeth died before 30 June 1471 when John remarried. His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander, Earl of Huntly. They had three daughters} and a son David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassillis (b. bef. 1478-1513) who married Agnes Borthwick.
