Sir John Stewart aka. Seigneur d'Oison was born about 1460 in Scotland. He was the son of John Stuart (1st Earl of Lennox) and his wife Margaret Montgomerie.
He fought in the Battle of Terina, where he saved his brother Bernard's life. He was Premier Homme d'Armes of France between 1505 and 1508. He held the office of Chamberlain and Councillor of King Louis XII in 1508 and was Captain of the King of France's Body Guard of Scottish Archers between 1508 and 1512.

John Stewart died in 1512.

===Marriage===
He was married first to Mary Sempill, daughter of Sir Thomas Sempill (of Eliotstoun) and his wife Elizabeth Ross, before 15 July 1486.
He was married second to Anne Monypenny the daughter of Alexander Monypenny (Seigneur de Concressault).
