He married, firstly, Lady Margaret Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Buchan and Lady Elizabeth Douglas, before 8 January 1436/37.Alison Weir, Britain's Royal Families: The Complete Genealogy (London, U.K.: The Bodley Head, 1999), page 220. , He married, secondly, Christian Murray, daughter of Sir William Murray of Tullibardine, before 8 January 1460/61.
He died circa 15 July 1478. ,
He was invested as a Knight in 1439. In 1448 he went to France as an envoy. He was created 1st Lord Seton circa 22 March 1450/51. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor [Scotland] in 1458. In 1472 he went to England as an envoy. , [[#N1]]
